Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors
I ordered this 36pc set on ebay many years ago. I had it in it’s original box for a few years, but it took up way too much space so I decided to put them in a small box instead. It’s way more convenient to store this way. I made these trays with the numbers on them, added ribbons for easy take out, and put the swatches on top. This small inexpensive cardboard box is the perfect sie for this set.
It’s a really good quality watercolor set/brand, I’ve been using them ever since I got them. I don’t paint that often, but this one is used well. They have many more colors and sets to choose from, I highly recommend.

Talens Ecoline Liquid Watercolors
These are liquid watercolors, may be a new concept for some. They looklike ing, but they’re water soluble. They have very bright colors, and a few drops are enough in a little bit of water. You can also use them pure for stronger color payoff.
The only issue I had with them reently that they have to be pretty dry if you want to layer them. I used them on 300gsm paper and after quite some time the bottom layers still weren’t dry enough, so the new layers bled at the edges.
Other than that I like using them on thinner paper, the colors are very bright, I recommend.

Schminke Horadam Aquarell Watercolors
It’s a small watercolor set, travel size, including a tiny brush (that is a little uncomfortable to use for me).
The colors are nice, they are not grainy at all, they mix well. However, once you mixed your color and let it sit for a while, you need to mix it again because it starts to separate. So if you go back to a color you mixed previously, just make sure you mix it again before using it.
It has two mixing trays and a ring on the bottom for your finger to hold it with.

Winsor&Newton Cotman Watercolors
Another travel size set, I feel this is more earthy tones than the Schminke, shich is a little brighter in my eyes. The brush is a compact one, you remove the cap and connect it to the end to make it longer. I prefer my own brushes (cheap ones of course), but if you use it as a travel set maybe it’s perfect for you.
There is only one mixing tray in this one, which may be enough, or may be too little depending on how many colors you wanna use.

HIMI Gouache Watercolors
This set has been going around for a while before I also decided to give in and buy one. I did not regret it one bit. There’s a lot of paint in the tubes, however I would use one or two more whites in it, mine is unning out pretty fast. The colors are bright, not grainy at all. After a while they might start to dry out, but mixing them with some water will solve the problem. Just make sure not to let them sit abandoned for too long, check on them sometimes if you’re not using them regularly and make sure to we them here and there so it’ll last long. I put a piece of cardboard on top before closing the lid, to add an extra layer of protection from getting too much air and drying out.
You can see some paintings I made with these below.
